Back to School – Back to Job Search

Hiring often heats up in the summer which is why it’s recommended to increase your job search efforts during the warmer months. However, we know many of you still take time off to spend with your family, enjoy a nice vacation, or take a break after a hectic work project or stressful search for employment.

Now that Labor Day has come and gone, the kids are back in school, and autumn’s on its way, the time has come refocus your career goals.

For active job seekers, use fall as an excuse to freshen up your resume, LinkedIn profile, or interview wardrobe. Reconnect with people you haven’t been able to see over the last few months. Check in with your professional groups to learn about upcoming events or meetups. Make time for networking activities, continuing educational courses, or job application follow-ups.

If currently employed, it’s a good time to evaluate where you are in your career and if you’re happy with how things are going. Gauge the value you add to your current company and what you’ve accomplished during your tenure. Ask yourself if you are on track with where you want to be. If the answer is no, then why aren’t you? Does your company offer opportunities for advancement? Will you be able to accomplish your career goals where you currently are…or should you seriously consider looking elsewhere?

Just like you, companies are also shifting with the season and taking stock. Since vacations are over for the most part, employers are reassessing their workforce and making hiring preparations for the coming year.

Don’t let the oncoming cold freeze your momentum! It’s time to get back to school and back to the job hunt. Your career upgrade is calling.
