Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Lake City, MN — Remote/Hybrid options available for the right candidate in the Twin Cities, Southern Minnesota, or Western Wisconsin
Job Type: Full-time, hourly, overtime-eligible
Travel: Up to 25%, typically in trips of two weeks or less

Our client is a control engineering and integration firm that designs, builds, programs, and commissions custom automation systems for industrial machines and processes.
This is a senior-level opportunity for control engineers who want to own projects from design through startup. You’ll work with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, motion control, electrical design, and control panels while working directly with customers and seeing your systems operate in the field.
What You’ll Do
- Design, program, test, debug, and commission PLC and HMI systems
- Own projects from electrical design and panel layout through programming, startup, and customer handoff
- Lead field startups and troubleshoot systems independently
- Program and tune VFDs, servo systems, and multi-axis motion
- Develop electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Apply UL 508A standards to control-panel design and construction
- Work directly with customers to troubleshoot systems and train operators
- Support project quoting, scoping, and estimating
- Collaborate with a small team of controls engineers, technicians, and customers
What You Bring
- 5+ years designing and commissioning industrial control systems
- 2-year degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong Studio 5000 / Logix PLC programming experience
- HMI development experience
- Hands-on VFD and servo/motion experience
- AutoCAD Electrical proficiency
- Working knowledge of UL 508A or the electrical fundamentals to learn it quickly
- Experience independently starting up and troubleshooting industrial systems in the field
- Willingness to travel up to 25% and work extended hours during commissioning
Nice to have: RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk View SE, sales/bidding/estimating experience, or established industrial automation relationships.
