This engineer will be responsible for implementing designs and programming that meet or exceed customer expectations in the fluid process industry. Areas include system architecture, electrical design, PLC and HMI programming, and more.

Required Experience: Controls
- BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering is preferred
- Must have PLC programming experience using Allen-Bradley PLC5, SLC, Logix
- Must have experience in a Fluid Process Industry like chemical, pharma, etc.
- HMI design experience (Wonderware, FactoryTalk View; other platforms a plus)
- Knowledge of common industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet)
- Low-voltage electrical design & layout (UL 508A panel design knowledge a plus)
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
Required Experience: Electrical & Instrumentation
Familiar with control panel assembly/wiring, installation and electrical power distribution equipment, motor controls, relays, metering units, PLCs, VFD's, transformers, chart recorders and various other electrical equipment. (Most applications are AC/DC low and medium-voltage. Some can be 480VAC 3 Phase High Voltage applications).
- Must be able to troubleshoot electrical issues using a Fluke Meter to measure voltage current, mA, etc.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation. setup, configure and troubleshoot field equipment.
- Must have the ability to create electrical drawings using AutoCAD. This included panel layouts, pneumatic drawings, electrical schematics, etc.
- Knowledge of machinery safety circuits/ Emergency Stop control design & mechanical concepts.
- Knowledge of electrical conduit runs and wire pull design. This includes cable trays, cable glands, disconnect cables, etc.
- Assist with field start up and electrical IO checkout
Desired Experience:
- Variable Frequency Drive selection and setup (AB PowerFlex and others)
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation drawings (P&IDs)
- UL 508A panel design knowledge
- Food/ Beverage/ Dairy process and programming knowledge
- Sanitary requirements & CIP system knowledge
- Database experience, including SQL Server
- Design and tuning of PID loops for process control
- Ability to independently manage and implement small capital projects
Other Requirements:
- Must be willing to travel throughout the US for project startups as needed, typically up to 20%.
- Must have valid driver’s license

Customers are located across the contiguous 48 states and travel expectations are between 10% - 20%. Requirements:
- Proficient in PLC programming.
- Siemens is primary but other PLCs are used.
- Proficient in HMI design & programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Panel Design
- Designs panel hardware drawings for provided control and network panels based on the following: (a) what was quoted in our scope letter, (b) the requirements as defined in the Contract Documents, (c) any standardized products currently in use at the facility, and (d) the project budget.
- Interprets the Contract Documents to determine installation requirements (e.g. panel sizing, interior versus exterior location, etc.).

Summary of role:

Job Summary:
You will interact directly with the customer and team of engineers and drafters in identifying requirements, developing specifications, and implementing/testing/commissioning/qualifying electrical solutions. You will research systems ideas and draw up plans for power and control at 480 VAC and below, including instrumentation and control devices. You are responsible for reviewing specifications and developing system specifications and drawing packages. You will conduct factory tests as needed. In addition, you will provide support throughout the manufacturing and commissioning of the electrical and control systems they have designed.
Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for 480 VAC design and drawings including motor branch circuits, power distribution and transformation, MCC design and specification, and electrical equipment specification.
- Responsible for hazardous area design including Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2 code and design requirements.
- Instrument specification, wiring, troubleshooting, and calibration.
- Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. This effort includes the ability to architect and specify control system designs and give work direction to technicians creating the drawings.
- Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state and local code requirements.
- Work at customer site to perform the system checkout and start-up of electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems.

Education

Job Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites around the globe.
- Provide installation and system startup support for food processing equipment.
- Work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules.
- Manage onsite repair, maintenance, and testing.
- Troubleshooting of PLC-based machinery operations.
- Use of industrial electrical prints.
- Product testing and documentation.
- Lead customer trials, PDIs and SATs.
Requirements
- AS degree in Industrial Maintenance or Electrical Controls.
- Two or more years of mechanical or electrical maintenance experience in the Industrial food industry.
- Interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints.
- Understanding of RSLogix 500 and 5000 a plus.
- Able to travel throughout the world. (at least 50%)

- 2-5 years in cost estimating or sales engineering.
- CAD experience including 2D layouts required, 3D experience is a plus.

Responsibilities
- Understand Food Processing equipment to make application recommendations.
- Utilize AutoCAD to generate pre-sale Conceptual Layout Drawings (CLD) in 2D.
- Create cost estimates for custom-engineered and manufactured equipment in SAP.
- Generate quotes.
- Utilize Microsoft Dynamics CRM to prioritize workload.
- Drive the sales handover process to the project team upon order receipt.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

- Communicate project status effectively with management and customers.
- Conduct pFMEAs (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and Risk Assessments.
- Estimate automation systems and develop cost models.
- Design molded, welded, etched, stamped, machined, and extruded components using SolidWorks.
- Create 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and part files for components in SolidWorks.
- Participate in design reviews, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application while adhering to project timelines.
- Coordinate and/or perform design verification and validation testing of new designs with the reliability engineering group.
- Identify automation concepts that address current customer needs in conjunction with sales and management.
- Utilize originality, ingenuity, and creativity to manage complex and large-scope project assignments.
- Modify existing product designs to improve performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Research and develop solutions to products requiring revision and process updates through Engineering Change Notices.
- Assign part numbers, create Bills of Material (BOMs), and define product configurations.
- Mentor and assist associate mechanical engineers and technical staff in engineering principles and procedures for product design, development, fabrication, and testing.
- Manage development tools and licenses, templates, and processes for the mechanical engineering functional group.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and quality standards (OSHA, RIA, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, NEC, ISO 13849-1; EN 954-1).
- Support company continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, or relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience in high-precision mechanical design.
- Advanced experience in bringing designs to production using design for manufacturing techniques, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs), and other quality control techniques.
- Proficient in 3D SolidWorks modeling, drawing generation, and CAD database management.
Work Environment:
- Most work is performed in an office and shop environment.
- Regular trips to client facilities and/or manufacturing plants may be required based on project responsibilities.
- Travel up to 30% will be required.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to support client needs during projects, including project meetings, installations, commissioning, shutdowns, and/or scheduled maintenance.
