The Water Resources Engineer is responsible for water supply planning, water rights and water quality protection, and the input/advisement of capital improvement projects involving raw water infrastructure. Assists in the research, analysis, planning, protection, and operation of the district’s water supply. Works with partner agencies and consultants for the operation of facilities and supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs water resources management responsibilities including providing technical and strategic planning assistance and recommendations on water supply, use of reclaimed water, water demand management, and issues related to the District’s water resources and raw water system; participates in operations, maintenance, and optimization of the raw water systems and facilities owned by the District; performs water supply and water resources studies, modeling, and data management.
  • Utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) for water resources applications including watershed management, water system operations, and water use studies.
  • Investigate potential impacts from proposed development and construction activities to raw water facilities owned by the district and irrigation companies.
  • Oversees and collaborates with partners and consultants on water planning, and development, water supply availability, water demand projections, production and consumption data and trends, and drought planning research.
  • Assists with capital improvement projects including reviews of design plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Provides support in the coordination of water resources issues with other departments, consultants, and customers.
  • Participates in Board meetings.
  • Works and negotiates with partners and consultants to ensure deliveries of water supplies.
  • Gives presentations and prepares written reports and memos.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives and provides input and feedback on department policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance as scheduled and perform job duties as assigned.
  • Participates in or leads committee(s) and/or task force(s).
  • Provides backup coverage for other positions.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in water resources, environmental or civil engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 3 + years of experience in water resources management, civil or environmental engineering, or a field directly related to water resources management.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s license.
  • Experience working directly for a municipality, water district, or consulting firm providing services to a municipality government preferred.
