Senior Controls and Automation Engineer

Tampa, FL, USA

Onsite

$95,000 – $110,000

Job Number: 6940

An established engineering, automation, and construction firm is seeking a Senior Controls and Automation Engineer to join its team in Tampa, FL. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site opportunity for an experienced process control professional ready to build Siemens PCS 7 and Rockwell control applications from the ground up and carry projects from programming and testing through startup and commissioning.

This role offers a comprehensive benefits package including employer-paid medical and dental coverage for employees and their families, vision, a 401(k) with a 3% company safe harbor contribution plus optional annual profit sharing, a yearly performance bonus, a company vehicle, and a company cell phone.

Overview:

  • Develop Siemens PCS 7 and Rockwell control applications from scratch, including process control strategies, sequences, interlocks, and control logic.
  • Develop and modify control system configurations and operator interfaces for new and existing systems.
  • Interpret P&IDs, control narratives, functional specifications, and technical drawings to guide control system design.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and commission control systems through startup.
  • Support process control system upgrades and migrations.
  • Work directly with customers, engineers, and project teams to develop automation solutions.
  • Support system testing, documentation, and technical development from the Tampa office.
  • Provide occasional after-hours troubleshooting for approximately 2 to 4 weeks following project commissioning.
  • Travel approximately 10% overnight, with most projects within one hour of the office; a major out-of-state PCS 7 project (development in 2027, commissioning in 2028) will require about three months of commissioning support, shared with a second programmer on a two-weeks-on, one-week-off rotation.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of industrial process automation and control systems experience.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience with Siemens PCS 7 required.
  • Rockwell PLC programming experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop process control applications from scratch, not only modify existing code or troubleshoot equipment.
  • Solid understanding of DCS architecture, process control strategies, sequences, and interlocks.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, control narratives, and technical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with customers and project teams.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background check required for on-site work on DoD CUI projects.
  • A driving record with no major infractions in the past 7 years is required.
