Engineering & Operations Manager

Automationtechies is partnering with a global engineering services company specializing in industrial automation, digital manufacturing, and critical infrastructure in search of an Engineering & Operations Manager to lead their US business. This is a direct hire opportunity for a technically strong, commercially minded leader ready to build and grow a US operation with the full backing of an established international firm behind them.

This role offers a strong base salary with annual performance bonus, a meaningful ownership stake with a vesting path, 401(k) with up to 4% employer match, medical coverage with 80% employer contribution, 20 days PTO, and 10 paid holidays.

Location is flexible with a strong preference for the East Coast — Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, and the Delaware Valley are of particular interest.

Overview:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the US business including engineering delivery, resource planning, project performance, and team development.
  • Own projects from initial scope and design through implementation, commissioning, and closeout managing budgets, schedules, scope changes, and risks throughout.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across industrial automation and control systems including PLCs, HMI/SCADA, instrumentation, process control, and industrial networks.
  • Serve as the senior technical point of contact for customers and contribute directly to engineering assignments, design reviews, troubleshooting, and commissioning support.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, develop new opportunities, and lead scoping, estimating, and proposal preparation.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop the US engineering team as the business scales.
  • Be highly chargeable on project delivery in the early stages (70–80%) with that percentage reducing as the team grows around you.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or a closely related field.
  • System integrator background required — you know how to start from a blank page, understand customer requirements, whiteboard a solution, and turn it into an architecture and a cost estimate.
  • Strong hands-on PLC programming experience across Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms
  • Solid HMI/SCADA experience across platforms such as FactoryTalk, Ignition, Wonderware, or Siemens
  • Practical knowledge of industrial instrumentation, control panels, electrical drawings, and industrial communications networks including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering projects and technical teams including workload planning, mentoring, and accountability for delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to build customer relationships, develop proposals, and win project work.
  • ISA-95 Level 1,2 and 3 experience including MES or industrial data operations a strong plus.
  • Industry experience in food and beverage, life sciences, CPG, water and wastewater, or energy a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently to customer sites across the US.
