The Controls & Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting control systems for industrial automation projects. This position primarily serves as the technical lead, providing guidance on project design, programming, and implementation. Key responsibilities include adherence to IEC61511 and ISA 84 SIS standards, on-site startup support, and mentoring less experienced team members. The role involves generating system architecture designs, cost estimates, and equipment lists and working closely with clients and team members to meet project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement control system designs that align with project scope and client expectations.
  • Lead or collaborate on projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and timely completion.
  • Conduct technical analysis, troubleshoot software, I/O, and network issues, and provide on-site support during startup.
  • Guide junior engineers and technicians, ensuring alignment with company standards and client specifications.
  • Develop project deliverables, including installation specifications, cost estimates, and automation system architecture designs.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure the seamless flow of information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in process control environments with systems like Emerson Ovation, ABB Infi90, Siemens PCS7, and/or DeltaV DCS/SIS.
  • Proficient in Rockwell Automation PLC programming and Foundation Fieldbus.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131 and ISA S88 programming standards.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Microsoft and UNIX/Linux operating systems, and virtual machine deployment.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in mentoring team members.

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Modbus protocols, Ethernet/LAN/WAN systems, and network security.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD or Microstation) and experience with control system vendor software.
