Industry: Industrial Automation & Material Handling

Are you a hands-on engineer who thrives on bringing systems to life? Our client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join their high-performing engineering team and help implement cutting-edge industrial automation solutions across the country. This is a remote position with significant travel required—perfect for self-starters who enjoy independence, flexibility, and seeing their work in action.

In this role, you’ll take the lead on-site during commissioning phases, ensuring high-performance systems are fully tested, compliant, and optimized. This is a contract role with irregular, non-guaranteed, hours. Some weeks could be 40 hours and other weeks be only 5 hours. It depends on the customer’s needs.

You’ll work with leading technologies and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex material handling projects. If you’re fluent in Siemens Step 7 (especially SCL and STL), have a strong background in PLC/VFD/HMI systems, and love solving problems on the front lines—this role is made for you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Commission and optimize material handling systems at client sites

  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and validation

  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients for seamless implementation

  • Generate detailed commissioning documentation and reports

  • Train end-users on systems and maintenance procedures

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Associate degree in a related field (Bachelor’s in EE preferred)

  • 4+ years of commissioning experience in material handling systems

  • Strong Siemens Step 7 experience, including SCL and STL

  • Proficiency with PLCs (primarily Allen-Bradley), VFDs, HMIs, barcode scanners, safety systems, and industrial networks

  • Familiarity with industry regulations (NEC, NFPA, OSHA)

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively

Why Apply?

  • Lead complex, rewarding projects across the U.S.

  • Enjoy autonomy and flexibility with a remote, contract role

  • Work with a supportive, experienced engineering team

  • Make a real impact at every stage of the commissioning process
